The pride watch, designed by Alex Donahue, is a unique and meaningful timepiece that celebrates diversity and inclusivity. With its innovative design and powerful symbolism, it stands out as a statement of pride and equality.
What sets this watch apart is its dynamic display of colors. The watch features six rainbow colors that continually move about the face, creating kinetic patterns that represent the ever-changing nature of the LGBTQ+ community. Twice a day, at both noon and midnight, the colors align to form the shape of a rainbow, symbolizing unity and solidarity.
But the pride watch is not just about its striking design. It is also a meticulously crafted piece of technology. The watch is made of black stainless steel with hidden lugs that seamlessly connect the band. The case, with a diameter of 40mm and a height of 8.85mm, houses a Japanese quartz movement, ensuring accurate timekeeping. It is water-resistant up to 3 ATM, making it suitable for everyday wear.
Designed to be unisex, the pride watch is a versatile accessory that can be worn by anyone who wants to show their support for the LGBTQ+ community. The black leather band adds a touch of elegance, while the monochrome backdrop of the case and band allows the colorful hands to take center stage.
Alex Donahue, the designer behind this remarkable timepiece, drew inspiration from extensive research on the symbolism of the LGBTQ+ rights movement. The rainbow, being the most prevalent symbol, became the focal point of the design. By integrating the rainbow into the watch's function, the hands themselves become a metaphor for unity, constantly moving and coming together to form a complete rainbow.
The pride watch is not just a fashion accessory; it is a powerful statement of support and acceptance. It serves as a reminder that beauty comes in all colors and is heightened by their alignment. By wearing this watch, individuals can proudly display their commitment to equality and inclusivity.
Alex Donahue created the conceptual and technical drawings for the pride watch in Fall 2019. Production began in Spring 2020, and the watch was released in Summer 2020. Since then, it has garnered attention from design stores and individuals worldwide, becoming a symbol of pride and a testament to the progress made in the fight for LGBTQ+ rights.
The pride watch has been recognized for its exceptional design and innovation. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Jewelry, Eyewear, and Watch Design category in 2021. This prestigious award is given to well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. The pride watch stands out for its integration of industry best practices, competent technical characteristics, and its contribution to a better world.
With its powerful symbolism, meticulous craftsmanship, and dedication to equality, the pride watch is more than just a timepiece. It is a symbol of unity, inclusivity, and the ongoing fight for LGBTQ+ rights. By wearing this watch, individuals can proudly display their support for the global civil rights movement and stand with pride for the rights of all people.
